What Do We Teach?
We believe that mastering English is essential because it underpins success in every other subject. Our curriculum extends beyond the basics, helping students strengthen their vocabulary, grammar, and reading comprehension through meaningful learning experiences. PATRICK POWERS
I have over a decade of experience teaching English at the elementary, secondary, and university levels — and five years as a professional tutor — I’ve helped students from all backgrounds become stronger, more confident readers and writers. I hold a BA and MA in English Literature and have completed doctoral-level research on academic writing and critical analysis. My background allows me to bridge the gap between high-level academic expectations and real-world student needs.
Why Do We Teach?
Even before the pandemic threw a wrench in everyone's education, most public schools could only focus on a median range of students. This means students at the top end and bottom end of the curve are not being given the attention they deserve. The divide between students is only growing, and many students will have long-lasting gaps in their knowledge, abilities, and performance.
My specially designed curriculum and instruction are meant to not only address these gaps but elevate a student's English education past their normal expectations. We want to ensure that students are not just getting by, but going beyond.
I specialize in helping students overcome the emotional barriers to learning and the mental stress that can come from the constant pressure of academics. I’ve developed a critical and empathic approach that helps students understand why they’re learning what they are. This self-aware methodology builds confidence and reinforces critical thinking, empowering students not just to perform better, but to think more deeply and independently.
With my experience and expertise in English Language Arts instruction, parents will see a difference in their child's reading and writing abilities, preparing them for future success.
